September - Birthday's

When September rolls around we have some special birthdays to celebrate. Jack turned 8 and Pa turned 64. He still claims to be only 49 so we let him think that. We went to Matt and Kara's for the birthday tea with Laura, Steve, Toby, Beau, Davy, Jeni, Josh, Hollie, Maddie and the rest of us. It was a fun time with lots of noise and laughter.

Another Trip up the Canning Stock Route

Oh dear after the last trip along the Canning Stock Route in 2013, I said it would be my last!! Well that did not happen. Off we went again because Pa had a call from the Track Care group to see if he would repair the top of Well 15. Pa could not say no because it was the 1st well that Poppy Hop (Rabbit) and crew did way back in 1998. So off we go all packed up with supplies and friends to have another adventure. Our slaves this time were Kym & Leanne Krause, Peter & Kaye Grosser and David & Marlene Wegener. Little did the Grosser's and Wegener's know what they were letting themselves in for!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A few more galahs to add to the big one at Kimba

 Morning Smoko at the border

One of the many camp sites

 Off we go again...................

Had not gone too far (a very rocky section) and as usual we had a puncture. Mind you it was the only one for the trip.

Now this was a surprise. A Cyclist on the CSR!!  A German on a bamboo bike.

At Windich Springs we came across Darryl Beattie and his bike riding friends.

Another group of bikers were having smoko at Pierre Springs

This is what we found at Well 15. The top in need of repair.

Pa had them all up and at it early the next morning.

It wasn't long and the top was off and the new poly sleepers were being installed

While the fella's were working we had 2 groups of bike riders stop in. Darryl Beattie was doing a documentary while he and his mates are riding the CSR so out  came the camera and they interviewed Pa. There were 5 groups of Bikers on the CSR at this time.

After a long day digging we decided to put the coffin to good use. It made a great bath. By the time Pa got in the water was a whole lot warmer than when Ma ma had her bath.
Pa being lowered into the well to clean out the tree roots

Kym and Leanne in the well cleaning out some of the 9 buckets that were in the bottom

 Job completed

 Up on Canning's Cairn

The German Bike Cyclist,  Falk caught up with us again at Durba Springs

 On Lake Disappointment

There were a couple of Dunes that gave Pa a bit of trouble so out came the snatch strap

Whenever the opportunity arose to have a bath or shower we made sure we took it up. We had spectacular scenery while showering.

A great sunset moment on the Gary Highway

Back in Alice Springs at the campground for a couple of days

A beautiful display of Sturt Desert Pea

Curdimurka Fettlers Cottage on the Oonadatta Track

We found the bridge at Curdimurka and its beautiful lagoon with alot of bird life

We stopped in at Farina to see how much more work the volunteers had done since we were there last year. They are doing a great job in preserving what is left. Well worth a visit.
We had a wonderful time away. The Canning was different again and where ever we went the countryside was looking good and healthy. We had lots of laughter and good fun with our traveling companions and thank them for being part of the adventure.
